Ugpi'ganjig (Eel River Bar First Nation)
Daniel Opasinis, a Mi'kmaq journalist ancestrally from Ugpi'ganjig (Eel River Bar First Nation), born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area.
I'm working towards my undergraduate degree at Toronto Metropolitan University and have spent the last year as an editor at The Eyeopener, our independent school newspaper.
I’ve worked as a breaking news reporter in the Toronto Star’s radio room and as a professional photographer shooting portraits, products and events.
Q: What and/or who has inspired your photography practice?
A: I've been following freelance photographer Carlos Osorio for a while, his work on the University of Toronto pro-Palestine encampment and the U.S. presidential campaign trail were both fantastic.
Nick Lachance at the Toronto Star tells amazing visual stories and does really cool outdoor flash work. Also, every photo editor I've worked with at The Eye has inspired me in some way.
