Ryan Comfort

Ryan N. Comfort, Ph.D.  is a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (Anishinaabe) and a Professor of Journalism at Indiana University. 

He has taught courses in photojournalism and visual storytelling for more than a decade. Prior to joining the academy, Dr. Comfort worked as a freelance photographer and videographer and has shot for regional, national, and tribal clients primarily covering environmental issues. 

He still occasionally shoots stories including recent coverage of Indigenous protests over a proposed lithium mine in Arizona and shooting for a documentary about wild rice restoration efforts in the Great Lakes.
