Tamara Joseph is a proud member of Elsipogtog First Nation, although she has a career in marine biology, she has a growing passion for sport photography.
The IndigiNews ReFocus Photojournalism Fellowship will be her first formal photography program.
While she has not had formal mentors, she draws strength and inspiration from the support of her community, which continues to guide her journey and shape her evolving path.
Q: What and/or who has inspired your photography practice?
A: I’m drawn to the moments between players before, during, and after a game when they forget there’s an audience and their true emotions come through.
It might be a quiet exchange before they start, a look of determination mid-play, or the mix of relief or pride after the final game.
These unscripted moments reveal connection, vulnerability, and authenticity, something that posing for photos just can't capture.
